Ernest was a heavy duty mechanic, working with the Pas Lumber Company,he also worked on the DEW Line and Pine Tree Line.
In 1972,working with CUSO,Ernest and Pearl went to Africa, serving three years in Zambia and three years in Botswana.

Morris--- Born March 18, 1905, Ernest John MOrris beat the Province of Saskatchewan into being by almost six months, and always enjoyed telling people that he was born in the Northwest Territories, southeast of Regina. The eldest of eight children, Ern worked hard to help turn the MOrris homestead near Osage into a prosperous farm, and then left to make room for his brothers, and perhaps also to feed a lifelong sense of adventure. That spirit encompassed his choice of brides. In 1935, Ern married Pearl Hutton, a beautiful and strong-minded teacher, with whome he raise five choldren. A skilled mechanic, Ern worked for decades for the The pas Lumber Company, mostly at Reserve, Sask. In his 50s, he worked in the Far NOrth on the Distant Early warning radar line. And in his late 60s and 70s both Ern and Pearl taught in Africa with CUSO. They came home to Saskatoon when Ern was 78, but his curiousity was far from satisfied, and his work was nver quite done. After Pearl's death in 1992, Ern made several trips with his children always with his camera in hand, and with a few small tools as one never knew when something would need fixing. His children remember Dad's gentle strenght and ready chuckle, his ingenuity, his almost infinite patience and absolute support of us. He was a good and honourable man. Ernest John Morris is survived by his children Jack (Joy), Bill (Karen), Mary ann Michayluk (Julian), Jim (Sharon) and Helen (Tony); by his grandchildren, Susan, David, Jan, Rob, Carolyn, Tanya, Ken and Katherine Pearl, and greatgrandchildren, Aidan and Hudson; by his sisters Ida, Nett and Jean. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 pm. Wednesday, August 11 at Grace United Church.

info Lf)
I was born Nov. 22, 1911 in the log house on the Balderstone Farm. Dad was still threshing when I was born. I attended Cotham and Larson schools, then went to Dubuc for grade ten, after that I attended the School of Agriculture in Saskatoon for tow years then worked at home.
In 1938 I married Mabel Hutton from Limerick Sask., who was teaching at Cotham school. Mother & Dad retired into Dubuc and Mabel & I took over the home farm, which we farmed until 1945 when we bought the Percy Criddle farm in the valley (Qu'Appelle). Bert , Ted and Don were born while we were on the home farm and David was born after we moved to the valley.
In 1949 we rented the farm to Bill Ware and moved into Regina to obtain medical rehabilitation for Don, who is physically handicapped. In 1954 we came back to the farm but found it necessary to take Don back to Regina for more help in the fall of 1955 during the time we spent in Regina, I was the Regina representative on the Board of the Saskatchewan Council for Crippled Children and Adults. Mabel opened the first academic classroom for physically handicapped children which was taken over by the Regina schoolboard once the need was proven. Llweyn was born while we were in Regina. In 1958 we came back to the farm again in the spring.
During the spring thaw, I had come to the farm preparing for the spring work and for the family to return. While I was burning off the long grass, the wind suddenly changed, bolowing the fire against the workshop. Before I could stop it , the shop was on fire. Two tractors and all my tools were inside and I wasn't able to save anything. This was quite a blow but fortunately we were able to replace the large tractor for spring work and as time passed were gradually able to recover.
We decided to try sheep farming shortly after we returned as Bert had expressed a desire to come back on the farm. He took a two year Agriculture course in Saskatoon, and I bought a hundred sheep from Dauphin, Manitoba, later we bought more and built the flock up to about 500. But we fought a losing battle against coyotes and when they had killed the flock back to about a hundred again we sold those and decided to try cattle instead. When Bert came back to the farm he bought the Len Norman farm to the west of the home farm.
Ted obtained his B.Sc in Saskatoon and decided to continue his studies in genetic science. He attended McGill University in Montreal for his Masters degree, then completed his Ph. D. in Virginia.
When David completed his high school, he went trucking for a few years and then decided he too wanted to farm. Arrangements were made for him to purchase the Don Norman farm to the east and we operated as a Father & Sons farm until 1974 when Mabel & I retired. Starting in the sixties we rented about 800 acres from the Indian Reserve which increased our cultivated acreage to over 2000 acres.
In 1967 Mabel & I built a new house in Broadview and the boys resided on the farm. Then in spring of 1974 Mabel & I sold our home in Broadview and along with Don and Llweyn moved to Vancouver Island to retire. The boys are still operating the farm as the Sefton Bros.
During my life in Cotham, I served on the Cotham School Board, the church board, I was secretary of the Dubuc Wheat Pool Committee, and was on the original Co-op Board in Broadview and worked to organize the Qu'Appelle Valley Conservation and Development Area of Authority and served on the Board until my retirement, was also on the Qu'Appelle Valley Farmers Association.
Bert married Shirley Jessop of North Battleford in 1973. they live on the farm with their two daughters and one son.
Ted married Joan Christensen of Watrous in 1966. They lived in Brampton, Ont. at present with a son and daughter. Ted is working for Hybred Turkeys in Kitchener, Ont.
Don is living and working in Victoria, BC
David married Pauline Yurchak of Saskatoon in 1970. They live on the farm with their two sons.
Llweyn married James Friars, originally from Moose Jaw, of the Canadian Navy in 1976. They live in Victoria BC with their two daughters.
