The Edges came in 1847 and built Edge Mills same year. Thomas Edge Hutton is related to John Edge, nephew of Charles Hopkins, brother of Charlotte Hopkins?
The Durham Cemetery was built on property that was owned by Thomas Edge Hutton and brother George Hutton, purchased Oct. 27,1887 for $600.00.
He was also a trustee at Hutton Hill School.Edge Mill on the Saugeen River where McGowan Mill now stands.
Thomas Edge married Elizabeth Wilkinson on July 12, 1871 in Mount Forest, Ont. Elizabeth (Eliza Jane) was born 1849 in Guelph, Ont. She died 1932 in Lethbridge, Alta. She is buried in Limerick, Sask. She is thed/o Robert Wilkinson and Margaret Speers.

John Lawrence dies at Durham
John McLennan Lawrence, a native of Egremont twp. , and a respected resident of this town for the past three years, died at his home late on Monday evening in his 80th year . The late Mr. Lawrence, who had been in poor health since Feb. , had been able to be up and around his home until recently. Deceased was born in Egremont twp., a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Lawrence, his mother being the former Ellen Moore. He married on July 15, 1890 to Martha Ann Mathews of Glenelg, who is left to survive along with six children, namely, Farr, Harold and Margaret, Mrs. William Atchison all of Egremont. Roy of Durham, Elva, Mrs. R.B. Long of Holstein and Cora, Mrs. Frank Caruso of Toronto. One son, Goldwin, predeceased his father 31 years ago. Seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild survive. One of a family of nine, the late Mr. Lawrence is also survived by thtee brothers and three sisters. They are; Joseph and William both of Holstein, Thomas of Buffalo, Mrs. Martha Ector of Saskatoon, Mrs. Kate McFadden of Glenelg and Gladys, Mrs. William McDonald of Durham. The late Mr. Lawrence, who was a faithful member of the United Church, had resided on Lambton Street, in Glenelg twp. over 25 years before coming here to reside three years ago.

W.A. Lawrence Dies
William Albert Lawrence, former resident of the Durham area, died Monday at Beck Memorial Sanatorium, Byron, in his 80th year. His wife, the former Mabel Hooper, predeceased.
The body is at the Bennett and Pincombe Funeral Home, London.

Mrs. J. Lawrence buried in Durham Cemetery
Funeral services for the late Mrs. John Lawrence were held Wednesday afternoon at her home. Rev. J.A.C. Kell had charge of the servicees. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased; Ray, Floyd, and Keith Lawrence, Franklin Caruso, Harold Atchison, Carmen Love. Internment was in Durham Cemetery Friends from a distance were from Detriot, Toronto, Barrie, Mount Forest, and Hanover.
Mrs. M.A. Lawrence dies in Durham
A well known and highly respected resident of Durham for the past 26 years, Mrs. Martha Ann Lawrence, died at her home Mondy morning at the age of 88 years. The late Mrs. Lawrence was the last surviving member of a family of eight of the late George Mathews and Margaret Bell, and was born in South Glenelg in 1890 , she married John Lawrence of Egremont twp. who predecesed her in 1949. The late Mrs. Lawrence was a member of Knox United Church, Durham and the South Glenelg womens institute. She has been in failing health for the past three months. Surviving are three sons, Farr of Vineland Station; Roy of Durham; Harold of Egremont twp.; Elva, Mrs. R.B. Long of Holstein; and Mrs Cora Caruso of Toronto; 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. One son Goldwyn, predeceased Mrs. Lawrence in 1916.
